Girls into Technology
FIT Info Days
The FIT Info Days are a two-day major event for upper secondary school students to apply for scientific and technical studies. The aim of FIT is to encourage young women to expand their horizons and also to consider technical or scientific education in their future career planning.
Since 2015, the Vienna University Children’s Office has been coordinating the implementation of the FIT Info Days at the University of Vienna, which is represented with an information stand and several workshops at the FIT Info Days.
FIT – Fem* in Tech is an initiative of the association sprungbrett: www.fitwien.at
Vienna Daughter’s Day
Vienna Daughters’ Day is an opportunity for girls to spend a day at one of about 200 companies/universities in Vienna and get first-hand impressions of the world of work and education. Its focus is on technical/digital, skilled manual and scientific careers.
The Vienna University Children’s Office has been coordinating the Vienna Daughters’ Day at the University of Vienna since 2017, where scientists from natural sciences and technical fields meet with schoolgirls.
Girls celebrate technology
Girls celebrate technology is a series of events organized by the City of Vienna’s Testing Centre, Inspection and Certification Body (MA 39). Girls from grades 7 to 9 visit the laboratories of MA 39 for around 3 hours and learn about many technical fields of work – from construction technology and building physics to hygiene testing. The program includes numerous experiments, typical work in the testing laboratories and getting to know female technicians.
The Vienna University Children’s Office has been involved in the didactic conception, advice and implementation of the workshops since 2023.
Girls’ program at the Vienna Children’s University
At the Vienna Children’s University, individual courses in scientific and technical subjects are offered every year especially for girls. The girls’ program offers a framework in which girls are among themselves and can work together on technical and scientific problems.
Since 2017, a separate boys’ program has also been offered in areas that were previously typically dominated by women. The girls’ and boys’ program is a consciousness-raising measure and goes hand in hand with increased media and information work aimed at raising awareness and providing information on this topic.
Code Studio
The Code Studio project of the Vienna Business Agency was conceived from October 2014 to February 2015 in cooperation with the Vienna University Children’s Office for children and young people and carried out at various locations in Vienna. Under the motto “Having fun, programming games yourself, visiting IT companies”, the Code Studio gave children and young people access to the topic of coding and presented different career perspectives in the IT sector. As part of the Code Studio, a coding week was offered exclusively for girls from 02 to 06 February 2015 at the Vienna University Children’s Office.
