Submit Science Snacks and win!

How can you explain knowledge about forest fires in a child-friendly way? We are looking for your best ideas for Science Snacks: simple experiments about forests, forest fires or all measures that help prevent forest fires! Send us your Science Snacks as a short video, text instruction or instruction with pictures to info@kinderuni.at or via WhatsApp to 0664 8864 5466 by January 31, 2025.

The best ideas will be awarded prizes (in the form of vouchers):
1st place: € 500  |  2nd place: € 250  |  3rd place: € 100

The competition is aimed at teachers, students, families, leisure educators, pupils in groups and interested parties. The winners will be notified by us.


What is a Science Snack?

Structure:
– Title (e.g. a research question)
– List of materials (“You’ll need:”)
– Step-by-step experiment instructions (“Try this!”)
– Observation (“What happens?”)
– Simple explanation with reference to science (“Why is that?”)
– Everyday relevance (“What do I need this for?”)
– Optional: Small addition (“By the way:”)

Examples:
Science snack with short video: How do you get a water lily to bloom?
Science Snack with text and picture instructions: A forest in a jar
Science Snack with text instructions: Experiment to extinguish fire

Personal details:
– Name(s) of the person(s) submitting the Science Snack
– Institution (e.g. school and school class, club, university) or “private”
– Contact details: e-mail and telephone number

The submitted Science Snacks are subject to the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license terms and may be published by the Vienna University Children’s Office with attribution to the author.
